The Fire House Gallery & Shop is a public-private economic revitalization project launched by Berryville Main Street to transform an historic building in its downtown commercial district into a unique retail destination.
Constructed in the ‘30’s, this handsome brick building has played a key role in Berryville’s history – housing its first fire house for close to three decades and its town office for close to four.
The cost of the project is $70,000. Half of the cost is being financed publicly. The town is contributing $10,000 and Clarke County $25,000. The remaining $35,000 will come from private donations.
Scheduled to open in December 2009 – the new structure will also house Berryville Main Street’s office and a small library and resource center for local residents and business owners.
Berryville Main Street is undertaking this project as part of its mandate as a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street program: “to promote economic revitalization in small towns across the United States.” Berryville is one of only 21 towns in the state of Virginia to carry the prestigious Main Street designation.
